Real Estate Board encourages agents to start blogging

Finally, the Real Estate industry is picking up on the web 2.0 and its benefits. Here is a video from the Greater Montreal Real Estate Board discussing the use of technology and the way it can enhance agents/client relationships.

We can expect more blogs popping up soon. Hopefully, they will be filled with original content and not just listings. After all, that’s what listing sites are for. In blogging, the best content is the informative one, direct and honest opinions on the market and advice on how to go about buying/selling real estate. There’s of course, ample space for commentary and some humor :)

In addition to agents joining the blogging network, it will be great to see the buyers and sellers writing about their point of view and experiences in the market. Some un-biased information will be good for a change.

Have you read a good Real Estate Blog lately? Let me know on the comments form!

I was just telling my agent that a seller's agent laughed at me when he heard that I met her through a blog.

But I knew I wasn't crazy, and neither are you! Keep up the good work.

    Hi Jill,
Why would you be crazy? You're indeed in a position to say that web 2.0 actually works!
I've also met many of my readers through this blog and I'm always happy to hear: "Hi this is….I am a reader from your blog"
Blogging gives the reader an opportunity to meet the agent (or writer) in a different way than fliers and newspaper ads, as you get to interact directly with them, read their opinions, and exchange comments.

I'm glad you found your agent through this media. Best of luck in your purchase!

I agree with you- here's hoping we see more quality blogs with useful neighbourhood information – I think it separates the drones from the bona fide real estate pros. In our experience, people get a kick out of seeing their homes, businesses and experiences featured as blog posts. :-)

I think its kinda to late for the real estate industry to enter into blogosphere…. If you havent started blogging already your going to be Facing an uphill battle. It is vitally important to provide a unique online experience for your traffic.

On the site i have helped develop we have put together all of condominiums in the Toronto Area. We called it mycondonetwork.com.

    Hi Matt,

    Thanks for the visit.

For those of us who have been blogging for a while, (about real estate or not) we'd agree that the blogging boom was about 2 or 3 years ago. But there's always room for new talent.

I checked out the site you mentioned, but there's no blog attached to it.

Yup, we love to read news about our neighbourhoods and business in blogs. One thing I love is the fact you can give direct feedback to the articles as well.

Nothing seems to be easier than seeing someone whom you can help but not helping.
I suggest we start giving it a try. Give love to the ones that need it.
    God will appreciate it.

We took off the blogs off the site, they are still published but not linked to the site. It is exactly what you stated blogging was 2 or 3 years ago. But blogging taught us a lot and what we should learn from them is that people are always looking for fresh and current news daily.

The problem with blogs is that they come off unprofessional. While if you go to sites like cnn.com or thestar.ca people go back to those sites daily because their will always be something new on it every time of the day. And at MyCondoNetwork.com we were just posting weekly blogs making it useless.

We are redesigning the homepage right now and we are implementing a new feature which will hopefully be an interactive news section for the Toronto Real Estate Market.

Best part of the video was when Marc said, "Web 2.0 was something that came about in 2001". In other words, if you need a definition of web 2.0 at this point of the game, you are in trouble.

The entire real estate industry in this country is embarrassingly behind when it comes in adopting internet technology. Oh well, it just serves to make agents like Deya look like superstars!

Behind you said! I feel we’re still in the stone ages when it comes to applying technology in Canadian Real Estate.

It just serves to make us all (we savvy agents) realize we are a step ahead.
    Thanks for the comment dude!

Actually the design is quite nice already. Very clean and easy to navigate.
Adding a blog as a news section I find it to be a plus, as google gives priority to blogs over static sites. Even if you blog only once a week, we all love reading the “behind the scenes” news of a site.
    Or maybe it’s just me.

The internet has so much to offer for agents, buyers, and sellers alike. It's up to us to use the tools to our business advantage.cheers!
